Joshua Oxley
BMus, Dip Opera [Sydney Conservatorium]
Teacher Of Singing, Guitar, Piano; Tenor, Chorister, Conductor

Hi, my name is Joshua and I’m a passionate performer and teacher of voice and many instruments, including guitar and piano. With Opera Australia and other ensembles and national touring groups I have given a hands on educational experience to thousands of children from K-12, as well as given extensive time to nurturing the talents of adult performers. Inspiring children at Sydney’s Arts North Festival with several recordings of vocal lines, and having the chance to work with some of the biggest mass choirs in the country has been particularly rewarding. I have also had years of experience in church music, singing as a Lay Clerk at St Andrews Cathedral and St Mary’s Cathedral. Perhaps the most fulfilling element of this work (other than combining great voices to make exceptional music) is hearing the rapid improvement in the children that are singing music beyond their years with ease.
Graduating from the Conservatorium of Music (Sydney University) in both a Bachelor of Music (Performance) and Postgraduate Diploma (Opera Performance) supplied me with abundant knowledge in musicianship, history, theory, and performance practice. This has enabled me to help students achieve the highest results through their schooling and music examinations. In my own career I have been a principal artist with Opera Australia, appeared in concert with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, and many others. I have also been the recipient of awards in operatic and oratorio competitions such as the Joan Carden Award, winner of the Opera and Arts Support Group final, BBM Award for Music, and the Ronald Dowd memorial prize.
Most importantly in what I want to impart in all my teaching at this wonderful studio is the all-consuming love I have for music. It represents the utmost physiological and spiritual freedom and will encourage you to grow in your empathy and compassion. My extensive experience in voice teaching of all genres, guitar, brass, music theory, aural skills, and beginner piano will lay the best foundation for your continued love of music.
